  • “What a surprise!  To quote Monty Python...’Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition’ and we certainly didn’t expect such a beautiful home.  As we came in the front door – it is just so relaxing to be here and today we must return to rainy Manchester – but we will be back again.”
Tony and Sue, Manchester, September 2012
  • “Just brilliant! Just perfect!”
    Alison and John, September, 2012.

  • “...and to continue, party member No. 2.......Well Ernest and Julio you’ve done us proud – the house, the hospitality and the tour guidance!  But the weather cleared up upon Rob’s departure and we enjoyed two days of glorious sunshine in Granada and the local mountain scenery and towns.”

  • “Thank you for letting me share your most welcoming apartment.  I’ve enjoyed the peace, the views and your hospitality.  If I ever have the opportunity to return to lovely Andalucia, I would be very pleased to return to la Casa de la Inquisición.”  P.S. Kindest Julio, many thanks for lugging my most heavy suitcase up and down the stairs.”
    Francine, October, 2012.

  • “We very much enjoyed staying in such a special building.  I particularly loved the long balcony and central Andaluz patio.  Reading this book makes me jealous that I didn’t see more of the building, or indeed both of you.  If the weather has been half as good as the accommodation, it would have been a perfect holiday.  Thank you and best wishes,  P.S. The huge choice of reading material was very much appreciated as we sheltered from the rain.”
Steve and Frances, Rickmansworth, October, 2013.

    Anna, November, 2012.

  • “We have had a lovely long (6 week) stay enjoying the sunny weather and escaping the cold, wet then snowy British weather.  The apartment is just perfect, the views to die for and the hospitality fantastic again.  Many thanks, especially to Julio for his wonderful cooking.  Our second visit, we hope we will be able to return again later in the year.  Many thanks.  P.S. We have celebrated all of the important dates of 2012 in your apartment i.e. our anniversary (25) plus Dave’s birthday – May, Xmas, my birthday ((Nicola), New Year.  Thank you for making it all so perfect!”
Nicola and Dave, Stoke-on-Trent, January 2013.
  • “Thank you so much for the wonderful time I have spent here in your lovely house full of character and charm.  The view is amazing and all the flowers everywhere is nice.  Thank you for your ‘sherry’ and cheddar cheese – so good tasting - ‘Torrox house’ is a very lovely place.”
Else and friend, Copenhagen, February 2013.

  • “Torrox? Si!

    Your ‘House of the Inquisition’
Is steeped in history – in an ideal position!
    Vino tinto, books galore -
Magnificent views and much, much more.

    Mountains with slate-grey slopes
    And snow-capped sugary peaks
Rise above terraces of green, green groves
    Bearing exotic fruits – heaps!

  • I love to ramble gently round the curvy hills
    See the grey-green olive leaves
    Twinkling in the breeze.
  • I breathe in the cool, fresh air
Sweet smell of jasmine, pungent herbs
    And golden broom.

I can gaze from my window and
A picture unfolds of scattered white casas
    Their rustic roof tops
Tumbling down rhe hillsides and into
    A turquoise sea.

Perros barking, echoes down the valley
    Gatos roam, stretch, curl, sleep...
    Oh Axarquia!

    Who would have thought February
    Could be so kind?
In wintery Andalucia, I know I will find
A healthier body and peace of mind!
    We had a wonderful stay!”
Liz and John, France, February, 2013.

  • “We have once again enjoyed a wonderful week here in Torrox in the House of the Inquisition.  This is our second time to stay in the apartment and it has been excellent.  The weather not as good as last time but much better than Scotland.  Thank you once again for a wonderful apartment and we know if there is anything we need, we just need to ask.  We have had some great walks and drives in the surrounding areas.  We really liked Alhama de Granada and had a wonderful menu of the day in the Meson Diego in Plaza Constitución – also a great walk along the gorge.  We will be back again and will recommend the apartment to friends.”
    Marie and John, Scotland,March, 2013.

Trevor and Anne, Surrey, June 2013.

  • “Thank you for opening your home to us – it has truly felt like a glorious new home of our own. It will be sad to tear ourselves away from ‘our’ terrace and its beguiling views in order to return to England’s grey.  The walking and relaxation have been everything we needed and I have no doubt that you will be seeing us again before too long.  Thank you for making us feel so much at home.”
    Jane, England, June, 2013.

  • “Thank you so much for your hospitality and your precious advice regarding road traffic, restaurants, etc.  You have such a lovely house (with such a great view)!  Thank you so much as well for having to put up with so much of Angelique’s crying!  She took a few days to settle in but was fine afterwards.  We also loved the area and the food so much.  We will definitely come back in the future.  Thank  you again.”
Geraldine and Yann, London, November, 20013.

  • “Dear Guests, You must listen to all the good tips and advice Ernest and Julio give you, they have a wealth of stuff that will help you out with your stay!  We recommend a visit to Ronda, Granada and Acebuchal.  If you love your coffee like me, then the coffee shop on the main road, at the bus stop across from the ‘Tourist Information Centre’ is very good...and Café Centro on the corner at the bottom of the road.  We also loved having the terrace to sit on and watch the view and read some of the books on offer, especially in somewhere with so much character as this house.  We hope to come back as we have only scratched the surface of this area.  And thanks again Ernest for the great advice on the Alhambra!”
    Michele and Mike, November, 2013.

  • “We had been anticipating this part of our journey in Spain for many months, the chance to be with our beloved Wiggies, (Valerie and Geoff Wigfall who were here at the same time)  but to meet you both.  Our expectations were far outstripped by the experience of your loving kindness, patience and delight in showing the life and landscape of this magnificent coast and dramatic heights with its gleaming white villages.  Ernest, you set each day for us in its crown as if it were the perfect size and character for each day.  Eacj meal shared with you two was delicious and it was so nice to have you command the menu.  Thank you for sharing the donkey shelter and leading us through Frigiliana this afternoon, our last day in Andalucia.  Julio your constant and smiling eyes made us feel so at home as if we were really not so far from our own mountain.  Please come soon to visit us!”
    Barbara Wilson, California.
  • “Once I got to know the two of you, I thought I should try and convince you to become Zen Buddhists, you have such generous hearts and such compassion for the suffering of others, it seemed like a perfect fit.  My error of course was that you don`t need ‘Buddhism’ at all, since you are already so generous and compassionate!  It was wonderful to have such wonderful long-time residents showing us Torrox, Nerja and many beautiful pueblos blancos!  Thank you so much.
    Chris Wilson California, April, 2014.

  • “There’s no good reason at all that one’s disparate friends should get on, that our effusive Californian friends might form a jolly attachment to Ernest and Julio and that the latter should enjoy their company.  Well it would be fair to say that we all got on like a house on fire.  Visiting with E and J is like coming home and our stay as always has been unmitigated pleasure.  Thank you.”
    Geoff, London.

  • “Relaxed, recuperated and revived!  It is a tonic to come here and with our dearest friends all together, we could not wish for more.  Thank you Ernest and Julio for making it so special.  The many happy memories will stay with us, not least the wrong road to Frigiliana!   But it was an adventure as always with the Wilsons.  We will miss you all.”
    Valerie, London, April, 2014.

  • “My last day – always a bit sad but I know I’ll see you again in September.  Thanks a lot for helping me – with good company – a nice place to stay – lovely food – answer my many questions.  I have enjoyed every minute on the terrace looking at the view, the birds and listening to the frog calling from the river Torrox.”
    Else, Copenhagen, April, 2014.

May - September 2014 Comments

“Thank you for a truly amazing couple of days in your unique home.  We will really miss sitting on the terrace with breakfast whilst looking at the mountains – We will have to come back soon!”
James and Natasha, England, May 2014.

“What can I say.  This is our first visit to Torrox and could not have wished for a better place to stay.  History, character, views, plant life and friendliness towards us.  Your invaluable help in all matters....Indeed everyone we met in the village contributed to our enjoyable stay.  So glad we chose Pueblo to stay and not Costa although we did enjoy a few half days at El Morche beach, which was our favourite, much quieter.  We also enjoyed looking at many varied and interesting properties for sale.
Breakfast on the patio was a great start to the day with the cockerels, donkeys/asses, dogs, birds giving us an early morning chorus – home is not like this.  Hope to be back.”
James and Margaret, Scottish Borders, June 2014.

“Thanks for yet another glorious 2 weeks in Torrox.  Our only consolation now is that we have booked for next year. 51 weeks and counting.”
Carol and Martin, July, 2014

“Another year, another visit – new experiences and adventures.  Yet some things remain constant – your friendship, care and attention being uppermost.”
Hele and Gary, Sheffield, July 2014.

This trip has been far too short but a delight none-the-less!  Have been so lucky to be able to come to such a beautiful place with my best friend ever as a travel companion.  We have enjoyed our stay immensely and we are so grateful to Julio and Ernest who have looked after us so wonderfully. We already  have plans for our return trip and we cannot wait to come back...  I have truly felt so happy and at peace over these last few days, for that I cannot thank you enough..  Best girls holiday ever!”
Esther, Lewisham London.
“Cannot  begin to describe how special our few days break has been.  Neither of us cope well in hot weather (obviously too used to the rubbish Lewisham summers).  The city has brought too many stresses recently so its been an absolute dream spending some chill out time in this masterpiece of a house with two lovely new friends”
Ani, Lewisham London, July 2014.

“Thank you for the wonderful stay in the most beautiful house in Torrox.  The house, it’s charm, it’s view are just amazing.  We would love to come back one day in this heaven on earth.”

Aloun and Gilda,  August 2014.

“We feel extremely fortunate to have stayed in your house.  The sheer beauty of the apartment and entire building is breathtaking.  You’ve done an amazing job at restoring this place and we both loved the story of your process in obtaining and restoring the building.  Thank you for your hospitality!!!  You definitely have a gem here in this beautiful pueblo.  I look forward to returning at some point in the future.”
John, August 2014.

“Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.  The house and the story behind it is absolutely amazing.  I an so glad we got the chance to stay in this spectacular place.  The view, the peace and quiet is just what we needed for vacation.”
Aladria, California U.S,A., August 2014.

“Thank you very much for welcoming us into your wonderful home.  We are amazed by the effort and love you have put into the design and restoration of The House of the Inquisition.  Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer!  Hopefully we will be able to come visit again sometime in the future”.
Ian and Min Jee, August 2014.

“It gets harder to leave but easier to come back!  I am mildly compensated by souvenir pen and  flamenco video.  But I go with some good conversation to think over and memories of the shouting waiters at the restaurant and the fabulous gardens.  This place and our friendship matures in delightful style.”
Suzanne, Whitstable Kent.
“Yet again not ready to leave your lovely town house, garden and hospitality.  This has been a marvellous holiday, look forward to next time.”
Trish, Whitstable Kent, August 2014.

“We have had such a magical week here in Torrox -  made even the more enchanting by your stunning home.  It’s been a little dream and we wish we could stay!
Thank you for all your warmth and hospitality.  I shall be spreading news far and wide about this gorgeous place.”
Siobhan, Steven and Linda, September 2014.
